November 9, 2024Perfect tablet for my 63 year old mother. She had Samsung tablet that was only $50 cheaper in the past that was so laggy and just physically way too heavy that it caused constant frustration. Them an amazing Fire Tablet 10 to replace that because Samsung stopped security updates way too soon back then but it was so much worse. Fire OS is a dumpster fire and the table itself was doomed to be awful because it had almost no RAM. Using Amazon own apps didn’t even work well I mean, how are you going to sell a tablet that you can’t even use Audible on properly when you’re making both of those products. For the iPad is snappy she has taken to using iPadOS a lot more intuitively than either of the other ones and very rarely, though I have to go and be “tech support” and fix something. I just simply have to tell her the way to do something on iPadOS and then that’s that. I’m glad that she got the last model with a home button too. Of course we all know that I’ve had something gold standard of tablets, but just wanted to share our experience with this particular model. I have had an iPad Air 4 and currently have an M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. They are fantastic devices more powerful than you can ever begin to make full use of, but that also means this table will run smoothly as long as Apple supports it with software update, which has always been years longer than Android OEM’s. I haven’t doubt that she won’t continue to use this tablet for at least five years even if it’s a little bit older model I still highly highly recommend it for the right situation or individual.

December 27, 2024There are many advantages for this 9th gen iPad. First is price. It's a great value. The speed is excellent for most of us. I switched from a Samsung Android tablet and got Apples built-in advantages such as better apps.
Although the screen is smaller than some, it's slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy (Android) Tab A7 even though the Samsung claims to be 10.4 inches while the Apple claims to be only 10.2.
This is true for the actual viewable screen size even though the iPad is larger. This is because the space surrounding the viewable area on the iPad (including the "Home" button at the bottom) aren't included in measuring viewable area. What the edge-to-edge viewable area of the Tab A7 does it make it difficult to manipulate full-screen apps.
For example, my wife and I read a little from the Kindle app every day. The apps full-screen-only view on the Tab A7 causes us to move pages and sometimes jump while reading . That's not a problem with the iPad because of the convenient area that's OK to touch that surrounds the viewable screen area.
Our old Tab A7s battery life has weakened over the years but was always several hours. The iPad's batter can last up to 11 hours during use which is much better than the Samsung's battery.
There a some drawbacks. If you plan on storing a lot of photos, the small amount of memory will limit you. Also keep in mind that this iPad tablet does not use a standard USB-C cable like my iPhone 15. Instead, it uses Apple's proprietary "lightning" cable (included). That's inconvenient.
It's taking us a while to get used to the Mac OS but my wife and I are warming to the 2 iPads we now use. I give this 4 stars because its excellent value for the price. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the limited memory and the fact that it's not the latest and greatest thing Apple has.

February 2, 2024I purchased this iPad because my previous iPad, which I need for work (psychotherapist), was failing to process Notes properly. Also, because the new one was on sale. Inevitably, I stumbled in not realizing that neither Best Buy nor most retail stores offer direct phone contact anymore. Still, when I came in you had it in stock, albeit shelved, and the purchase was made.
I have had more irksome issues with Apple. Attempting to migrate between iPads through iCloud was a bit of a disaster. Let me just add that I prefer Best Buy's policy of simply not accepting calls to Apple's supposed AppleCare, which seems to be hiring unqualified people with no tech-support background beyond working through Systems Preferences, etc.
I should add, I'm 77 years old, and can remember better days in both tech and retail environments. My main challenge now is to integrate my iPad with a MacBook Pro M1 Computer I bought several years ago at Best Buy in Ithaca NY. I was a geek squad member there; someone was supposed to come to my house and help me integrate my devices, however, he let me know on the day we picked that he had forgotten that the Daytona 500 was running and would have to get back to me. I canceled my geek squad membership, with significant resistance from Citibank (again, no phone calls accepted).
In summary, the iPad I bought recently from Best Buy seems to work. While I understand that the entire retail environment is in decline, I still wish I could find support for integrating the iPad with the MacBook (and the phone, an older MacBook, and so on). I now live in Rochester –if per chance I win this lottery, I would spend it all a visit from a competent, qualified tech-support person to help integrate my home office tech environment. (e.g., can't add Apple photos to this site).

November 11, 2024Very dissatisfied with quality of purchase. I have owned 3 other versions of iPads (2 mini and one previous generation of this regular iPad model comparable to this one). ALL of my older iPads still work great. This iPad just completely stopped working within 3 months of the apple care+ expiring. The ipad only lasted for about 2 years and then one day just completely stopped working all together, with it being used in the morning and then not functional 2 hours later. It was not used for heavy work, more browsing around and apps and well cared for - not dropped, no damage, etc. We brought the iPad to the smart bar at an apple store and we were told it was simply broke and nothing more could be done, no other explanation. We were then told we would simply have to purchase a new one, no discount offered, no trade-in/recycling offered just basically you are out of luck and let me show you the newest model. Extremely disappointing given the cost of the device. My niece who I purchased for is asking for a new one for Christmas to replace this but I will be shopping other tablets due to the lack of quality given it is the last one I purchased and first one to break with no support offered. I highly recommend looking at other brand tablets that cost way less and have similar capabilities.
