[Rewarded Review] Beware refurbished phones!!!
Ellindell· Review provided by walmart.com · October 18, 2024
I bought this refurbished phone listed as Cricket only on walmart.com. Gave it to my kid for his birthday to replace his broken Cricket phone. Cricket couldn't activate it as it was locked to Verizon. They told us to take it to Verizon to unlock it. Got there, they don't unlock phones at the store level. Furthermore, they investigated the phone and found it had an unpaid bill attached to it so it would never be useable. Had to return it to walmart and wait for a refund to be issued to me at some point in the future. They told me the protection plan i bought for it would be good on the new phone I had to buy in the store. That wasn't true at all. I spent 2 hours on the phone at the service desk with Allstate protection plans rep and walmart.com rep. They all tried passing the buck full circle. Finally got a foreign rep at walmart.com to issue a replacement protection plan for the new phone. nobody knew how to handle any of this. I have yet to see proof that the protection plan will work.

Product Quality:In almost pristine conditione, with a few tiny scratches
Best Feature:Snapdragon 865 + 5G
Performance:Better than every brand new mid range phones today

Honestly was kind of hesitant to try this instead of a newer mid range phone but surpisingly this was a really good buy! The seller is nice with the inquiries. The phone is almost perfect, just with a few scratches. Battery is still quite good, getting 5 hours SoT! Got a Canadian variant so single sim which kinda sucks in PH but it's fine :))

Camera and display is very good with 120hz. Altho I noticed a small scratch on the display itself when I was applying a tempered glass but it isn't that noticeable.

I used all of the alloted time by Shopee to test the device and I'm writing this review with the unit and so far it's been pretty great! Got the unit back in Dec 14 and I've been using it as my daily!

Performance:Still way better than similarly priced brand new midrange phones, except for battery.
Best Feature:Cost to performance. Very clear rear cameras with OIS. OS can be updated to Android 13, OneUI 5.1.
Product Quality:Looks almost brand new. No physical damage.

Appearance wise, the unit looks brand new, smooth, almost flawless. I was surprised that the one sent was complete with the original box and the accessories including a Type-C fast charger, headset, screen protector film and casing. The back cameras are great, no focusing issues. No display burns. The unit seem unused from Aug 2022 (due to last Android patch). I was able to update it up to Android 13, Dec 2023 Android patch, and Samsung OneUI 5.1.
Battery health still at 85% of its capacity. I have to charge twice a day with normal use.
The unit sent is a single-SIM version SM-G781W (single SIM slot, single IMEI only). That's no issue for me though as I prefer using a micro SD.
Serial number starts with RF, so I think it's a refurbished unit. Some small amount of glue sticked around the camera module.
The mentioned cons are just minimal though, the phone's condition could still be better compared to used 3 year old similar units sold in FB Marketplace.

Thanks seller for sending many pics and performing all the tests requested to thoroughly check the unit.
Also thanks to Shopee for the discount. I was able to get the unit below 11k - lower price than most 2nd hand unit posted in FB Marketplace.
A Beautiful Piece of Engineering

Three things make this phone for me. I previously owned an S8 which regrettably was not compatible with the AT&T network -- at least mine wasn't. The S20 FE 5G definitely is. Second, the top pulldown menu on the S8 only came down after repeated times; often it came down only to retract immediately. I use this constantly to see my charge, wi-fi, bluetooth, and location status. Very irritating. The S20 acts like it's happy to show me; once and done. Third, the fingerprint reader is on the front screen, and it works like a champ with either index finger. A little big to fit in my pocket, and the screen is super sensitive (until I get my protective cover) but I'm not complaining. 'Nuff said.
